2017 Legislative Session
House Speaker Corcoran Announces
December 12, 2016
This afternoon, House Speaker Richard Corcoran (R-Land O'Lakes) announced appointments to all House committees and subcommittees, including subcommittee chairs. In today's announcement, the Speaker said that the process for selection as a chair - in line with his initiative to decentralize authority and seek input from all 120 members of the House - consisted of Member consultations, Member preferences, committee chair interviews, leadership team meetings, and input from Minority Leader Janet Cruz (D-Tampa). Upon announcing the assignments and chairs, Speaker Corcoran said:
"I am excited about the team of committee and subcommittee chairs announced today. I am also proud of the way the new process was handled by all involved - applicants and chairs alike. Those chairs announced today, as well as all those who applied, can know that there were far more qualified Members than there were chairmanships available. All who participated have my respect and will be called upon to use their talents and knowledge to transform the way government works for the people of Florida."
Among the committees announced by the Speaker was the Select Committee on Triumph Gulf Coast to oversee the affairs involving the BP/TRIUMPH settlement and to ensure oversight and accountability in the fund's distribution. The Speaker wants to ensure that 75% of the funds are distributed directly to the eight disproportionately affected counties to the eight counties disproportionately affected in Florida's Panhandle.
Attached are Speaker Corcoran's complete list of committee assignments for the 2016-2018 term by committees and by individual Representatives.
